BALONNE LDMG UPDATE 2 - Tropical Cyclone Alfred
Published on 07 March 2025
The landfall of Tropical Cyclone Alfred as a Category 2 over Brisbane is now imminent in the next 12 to 24 hours (Friday 7 March – Saturday 8 March).
The Balonne Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) is monitoring the situation closely with some modelling indicating that our catchments may receive significant rainfall over the coming days, in particular upstream in the Barwon, Moonie and Condamine river systems.
The LDMG is currently receiving regular severe weather briefings from the Bureau of Meteorology and there are currently no anticipated direct impacts from this system as a cyclone to our Shire. However, impacts may occur as the system makes landfall and develops into a tropical low.
Any upstream flooding in the abovementioned catchments may result in road closures in the Shire over the coming period and we would urge everyone to please monitor our Emergency Dashboard for up-to-date information.
Anyone travelling east to South East Queensland should avoid any non-essential travel and refer to www.qldtraffic.qld.gov.au for updates on road conditions.
Flights have been impacted in and out of St George with the Brisbane Airport closed. Please check with Rex Airlines in relation to any flights at www.rex.com.au
We will continue to monitor this situation and release updates as required and would again urge everyone to please check the Emergency Dashboard for any potential weather and flooding impacts to our Shire.
Residents can stay up-to-date by opting in to the Emergency Dashboard https://emergency.balonne.qld.gov.au for all the latest weather and road conditions and includes links to www.bom.gov.au/qld
