BALONNE LDMG UPDATE - Tropical Cyclone Alfred
Published on 05 March 2025
With Tropical Cyclone Alfred expected to make landfall as a Category 2 over Brisbane during late Thursday (6 March) or early Friday (7 March), the Balonne Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) is monitoring the situation closely.
The LDMG is currently receiving regular severe weather briefings from the Bureau of Meteorology and although the cyclone is tracking west, at this stage there are no anticipated direct impacts from the cyclone to our Shire.
As the cyclone develops into a tropical low after making landfall, it is unclear of what path it may take and whether it may create flooding impacts in the Shire or upstream in the Barwon, Moonie and Condamine river systems.
The cyclone is also impacting flights in and out of the area as the Brisbane Airport will be impacted by this weather system. Please check with Rex Airlines in relation to any flights at www.rex.com.au
We will continue to monitor this situation and release updates as required and would urge everyone to please check the Emergency Dashboard for any potential weather and flooding impacts to our Shire.
Anyone travelling east to south east Queensland should avoid any non-essential travel and refer to www.qldtraffic.qld.gov.au for updates on road conditions.
Residents can stay up-to-date by opting in to the Emergency Dashboard https://emergency.balonne.qld.gov.au for all the latest weather and road conditions and includes links to www.bom.gov.au/qld
