This is an update from the Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) for the Balonne Shire.  Travellers and residents are asked to prepare now, stay informed and monitor conditions and where possible avoid travelling into areas that will be most affected.

The LDMG has now changed its status from stand-up to lean forward and is continuing to monitor the flooding as it recedes from most areas in the Shire. 

BUREAU OF METEOROLOGY UPDATE

Scattered rainfall of 13 mm to 17 mm has been recorded in the Moonie River catchment in the 24 hours to 9:00 am Friday.

The Bureau of Meterology has forecast isolated showers of around 20-40mm in the top end of the Moonie River catchment over the weekend.

VECTOR SPRAYING

Following this flood event, Council has coordinated a vector spraying program over the following dates/times:

St George Misting Dates

5:30am to 8:30am & 4pm to 7:30pm, Saturday 20 April

5:30am to 8:30am & 4pm to 7:30pm, Sunday 21 April

5:30am to 7:30am & 4pm to 8:30pm, Saturday 27 April

Thallon, Nindigully & Mungindi (Qld & Nsw) Misting Dates

5:30am to 8:30am & 4pm to 7:30pm, Monday 22 April

5:30am to 7:30am & 4pm to 8:30pm, Tuesday 23 April

Dirranbandi & Hebel Misting Dates

5:30am to 8:30am & 4pm to 7:30pm, Wednesday 24 April

5:30am to 8:30am & 4pm to 7:30pm, Friday 26 April

MOONIE RIVER SYSTEM

The Moonie River at Nindigully is currently at 2.15 metres and falling, below the minor flood level (2.20 m). The Moonie River at Nindigully is likely to remain below the minor flood level (2.20 m).

The Moonie River at Thallon Bridge is peaking at 3.90 metres and steady, below the minor flood level (4.00 m). The Moonie River at Thallon Bridge is likely to remain below the minor flood level (4.00 m).

BALONNE RIVER SYSTEM

Minor flooding is easing along the Balonne River at Whyenbah and may occur along the Bokhara River.

The Bokhara River at Hebel is currently at 1.00 metres and rising slowly, with minor flooding. The Bokhara River at Hebel is likely to remain above the minor flood level (1.00 m) for the next few days.

BARWON RIVER SYSTEM

Moderate flooding is occurring along the Barwon River at Mungindi and Minor flooding is possible at Mogil Mogil.

The Barwon River at Mungindi is currently at 6.92 metres and rising slowly, above the moderate flood level (6.70 m). The Barwon River at Mungindi may peak near 7.00 metres during Sunday, with moderate flooding.

The Barwon River at Mogil Mogil is currently at 7.08 metres and rising, below the minor flood level (7.50 m). The Barwon River at Mogil Mogil may reach the minor flood level during Sunday.

TRAVEL ALERTS

Local Roads that are currently impacted by flooding include:

Talwood-Mungindi Road, Mungindi - Closed 

Lower Plains Road, Dirranbandi - Closed

Gunnindaddy Road Mungindi - Closed

Narline Road, Dirranbandi - Closed

Whyenbah Rd, St George, Dirranbandi – Closed

Ballangarry Road, Thallon – Closed

Cubbie Road, Dirranbandi – Closed

Mulga Downs Road, Bollon - Lanes affected, Proceed with caution

Littleton Road, St George - Lanes affected, Proceed with caution

Highways that are currently impacted by flooding include: 

- Castlereagh Highway, Hebel to Dirranbandi – Has now reopened. Proceed with caution. 

- Carnarvon Highway, St George – Mungindi – There are lanes currently affected between Thallon and Mungindi due to flood water.
