APPOINTMENT OF INTERIM CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

Following the resignation of the Balonne Shire Council’s Chief Executive Officer Matthew Magin, Council has appointed an Interim Chief Executive Officer, Graeme Kanofski whilst a recruitment process is undertaken for a permanent CEO.

Mr Kanofski comes to the role with more than 50 years experience in Local Government having served as CEO for both Calliope and Gladstone Council’s, along with a number of recent acting CEO roles and other government related board and director positions.

To ensure a smooth transition, Mr Kanofski will be undertaking a formal hand-over process with Mr Magin and other senior staff prior to commencing the Interim CEO position on Monday 2 September 2024.

Mayor Samantha O’Toole welcomed the appointment of Mr Kanofski who brings with him the necessary experience to ensure Council continues delivering services to the Shire throughout this period.

“Mr Kanofski’s extensive experience in Local Government means he is well placed to minimise disruption and ensure a smooth transition of the CEO position,” said Mayor O’Toole.

“I would like to sincerely thank Matthew for his exemplary service to the Shire since his appointment as Council’s CEO in November of 2016.

“Council is now undertaking a comprehensive nation-wide recruitment process with a view to appointing the permanent Chief Executive Officer by the end of 2024.

“At this stage, Mr Kanofski will fill the interim role until the end of the year, however the appointment of a permanent CEO can take time and the final finishing date will be mutually negotiated depending on how the recruitment progresses.

“Together with Councillors and the Council team, I look forward to welcoming Mr Kanofski to guide Council’s day-to-day operations through this period.

“We will continue to keep the community informed as new information is confirmed in relation to the appointment of a new permanent Chief Executive Officer.”
