LDMG - Flood Warning - Wednesday 2 March 2022
WATCH AND ACT NO. 1 NINDIGULLY - THALLON - MUNGINDI
WEDNESDAY 2 MARCH 2022 – 4.00PM
This is a Flood warning from the Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) for the townships of Thallon, Nindigully and Mungindi.
Flooding is expected to impact communities in the Balonne Shire in coming days, especially in Thallon, Nindigully and Mungindi.
The LDMG is at LEAN FORWARD and monitoring the situation. Limited advice from the Bureau of Meteorology, is that the Moonie River is continuing to rise and is likely to impact the following communities over the coming days.
NINDIGULLY
Carnarvon Highway at Nindigully Bridge is currently being monitored and likely to close
Carnarvon Highway between Nindigully and Thallon likely to be impacted at various flood ways
Camping grounds at Nindigully will be closed in anticipation of possible inundation
There may be some disruptions to waste service next week
THALLON
Balonne Shire Council have staff, equipment and material in place should the levee surrounding Thallon require closure
There are also pumps on hand (should water need to be pumped out from inside the levee after rain over the town itself) and a generator is on its way from St George
An SES crew is on standby in the town
Information is not available at this stage from the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) about the height or exact time of the peak flooding in the Moonie River at Thallon but it is expected to occur on this Thursday-Friday (March4-5)
There may be some disruptions to waste services into next week
MUNGINDI
The Barwon River is not expected to impact Mungindi at this point in time
LDMG is monitoring flood levels in the Weir River system
Mungindi is likely to be cut off from St George due to the Carnarvon Highway being closed at flood ways
GENERAL UPDATES
All forecasts are subject to change depending on rainfall in the catchment and locally. Road closures could change without notice.
Residents should make preparations to stock up on essential supplies and check road conditions prior to making travel plans.
All travellers should reconsider non-essential travel. Local residents are also requested to stay off roads except for essential travel.
