WATCH AND ACT NO.2 NINDIGULLY - THALLON - MUNGINDI

THURSDAY 3 MARCH 2022 – 10.00AM

This is a Flood warning from the Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) for the townships of Thallon, Nindigully and Mungindi.

Flooding is expected to impact communities in the Balonne Shire Thallon, Nindigully and Mungindi.

The LDMG is at LEAN FORWARD, monitoring the situation and will provide a further update this afternoon.

 

NINDIGULLY

Carnarvon Highway at Nindigully Bridge is CLOSED at Bradley’s Gully near the Barwon Highway turn off.

Carnarvon Highway between Nindigully and Thallon likely to be impacted at various flood ways.

Camping grounds at Nindigully are CLOSED.

There is possible inundation at Nindigully with the waters still rising.

Moonie River at 7.00am Thursday 3/3/2022 – 4.98m, and rising.

A height of 5.9m is considered a Major flood event.

 

THALLON

Balonne Shire Council have staff, equipment and material in place should the levee surrounding Thallon require closure.

There are also pumps on hand (should water need to be pumped out from inside the levee after rain over the town itself) and a generator is on its way from St George.

An SES crew is on standby in the town.

Currently Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) report Moonie River at Thallon Bridge is at 3.82m and rising (1.08m below bridge)at 7am Thursday 3/3/2022.

A major flood indicator is 5m with the bridge at 4.9m.

 

MUNGINDI

The Barwon River is not expected to impact Mungindi at this point in time and is currently at 5.05 and steady at the Barwon River bridge.

Mungindi is now unable to proceed to Goondiwindi via Barwon Highway or Carnarvon Highway to St George at Nindigully.

 

GENERAL UPDATES

All forecasts are subject to change depending on rainfall in the catchment and locally. Road closures could change without notice.

Anyone seeking urgent medical assistance should dial 000.

The LDMG will consider requests for re-supply if townships or properties become isolated for an extended period. Requests can be reported to the Balonne Shire Council on (07) 4620 8888.

There may be some disruptions to waste services into next week

All travellers should reconsider non-essential travel. Local residents are also requested to stay off roads except for essential travel.
