WATCH AND ACT NO.3 NINDIGULLY - THALLON - MUNGINDI

THURSDAY 3 MARCH 2022 – 4.00PM

This is a Flood warning from the Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) for the townships of Thallon, Nindigully and Mungindi.

The LDMG is now at STAND UP to respond as required to the flood situation and will provide a further update tomorrow morning Friday 4 March 2022.

 

NINDIGULLY

The Moonie River is rising fast at Nindigully with the last reported height at 2.00pm – Bureau of Meteorology reporting 5.14m and rising. It is expected to peak tomorrow.

Carnarvon Highway at Nindigully Bridge is CLOSED at Bradley’s Gully near the Barwon Highway turn off.

Carnarvon Highway between Nindigully and Thallon likely to be impacted at various flood ways.

Camping grounds at Nindigully is CLOSED.

A height of 5.9m is considered a Major flood event.

 

THALLON

Downstream to Thallon the river will rise between 5.1m and 5.6m by Sunday 6 March. Council is continuing to monitor and have staff, pumps, generator and material in place should the levee surrounding Thallon require closure.

An SES crew is on standby in Thallon and a crew is situation in St George.

Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) report Moonie River at Thallon Bridge is at 4m and rising (.09m below bridge) at 9am Thursday 3/3/2022 but rising fast.

A major flood indicator is 5m with the bridge at 4.9m.

 

MUNGINDI

The Barwon River is expected to receive inflows from the Weir and MacIntyre river systems and reach Mungindi in a week. Bureau of Meteorology are monitoring will provide further updates.

Mungindi at 2pm Thursday 3/3/2022 at 5.13m and steady at the Barwon River bridge.

Mungindi is now unable to proceed to Goondiwindi via Barwon Highway or Carnarvon Highway to St George at Nindigully.

 

The local store has been resupplied today (3/3/2022)

 

GENERAL UPDATES

All forecasts are subject to change depending on rainfall in the catchment and locally. Road closures could change without notice.

Anyone seeking urgent medical assistance should dial 000.

The LDMG will consider requests for re-supply if townships or properties become isolated for an extended period. Requests can be reported to the Balonne Shire Council on (07) 4620 8888.

There may be some disruptions to waste services into next week.

All travelers should reconsider non-essential travel. Local residents are also requested to stay off roads except for essential travel.
