WATCH AND ACT NO.4 NINDIGULLY - THALLON - MUNGINDI

FRIDAY 4 MARCH 2022 – 9.00AM

This is a Flood warning from the Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) for the townships of Thallon, Nindigully and Mungindi.

The LDMG is now at STAND UP to respond as required to the flood situation and will provide a further update this afternoon Friday 4 March 2022.

 

NINDIGULLY

Bureau of Meteorology reports the Moonie River is continuing to rise at Nindigully – 5.42m and rising at 7.00am Friday 4/3/2022

It is expected to peak today.

Carnarvon Highway at Nindigully Bridge is CLOSED at Bradley’s Gully near the Barwon Highway turn off

Carnarvon Highway between Nindigully and Thallon will be impacted at various flood ways

Camping grounds at Nindigully are CLOSED

A height of 5.9m is considered a Major flood event

 

THALLON

Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) report Moonie River at Thallon Bridge and was at 4.19m and rising (.71m below bridge) at 6.35am Friday 4/3/2022

Once peak occurs at Nindigully BOM will provide peak predictions for Thallon (currently expected between 5.1m and 5.6m by Sunday 6 March).

Council is continuing to monitor and have staff, pumps, generator and material in place should the levee surrounding Thallon require closure

An SES crew is on standby in Thallon and a crew is situation in St George

A major flood indicator is 5m with the bridge at 4.9m

 

MUNGINDI

Mungindi at 7am Friday 4/3/2022 at 5.31m and steady at the Barwon River bridge.

The Barwon River is expected to receive inflows from the Weir and MacIntyre river systems and reach Mungindi in a week. Bureau of Meteorology are monitoring and will provide further updates.

Roads closed - Mungindi to Goondiwindi via Barwon Highway and Carnarvon Highway to St George at Nindigully

 

GENERAL UPDATES

All forecasts are subject to change depending on rainfall in the catchment.

Road closures can change without notice.

Severe storm warnings in place for SEQ today and over weekend.

Anyone seeking urgent medical assistance should dial 000.

The LDMG will consider requests for re-supply if townships or properties become isolated for an extended period. Requests can be reported to the Balonne Shire

There may be some disruptions to waste services into next week.

All travellers should reconsider non-essential travel.
