WATCH AND ACT NO.2

Wednesday 6th April 2022 - 3.00pm

This is a flood warning from the Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) for the Balonne Shire. Our Local Disaster Management Group is currently monitoring flooding that is expected to reach the Shire over the weekend.

TRAVEL ALERT

All road users are reminded to check road conditions before travelling.
Road conditions can change without notice.

The Moonie Highway is expected to close at Loudoun Bridge near Dalby on Thursday 7/4/2022.
The Carnarvon Highway at Surat bridge is likely to remain open with the river expected to peak at 10.5m over the weekend. The bridge height is 11m.

ST GEORGE

The Balonne River at St George is likely to see increased flows early next week. Council is continuing to prepare to remove park infrastructure along the riverfront. There is not expected to be any impact on habitable dwellings at this point in time and the Andrew Nixon Bridge on the Jack Taylor Weir is not currently expected to close.

DIRRANBANDI

Likely river levels at Dirranbandi are yet to be confirmed. Residents can expect the Police Lagoons beside the Castlereagh Highway to be inundated towards end of next week. This may force the closure of the Castlereagh Highway. It is time to plan and prepare for potential isolation.

HEBEL

Hebel community can expect the Hebel Dirranbandi Road (Castlereagh Highway) to close. The Castlereagh Highway into New South Wales currently remains open. It is time to plan and prepare for a possible isolation from Dirranbandi.

NINDIGULLY & THALLON

Minor flood warnings are current for the Moonie River and not expected to impact road conditions on the Carnarvon Highway at this point in time.

MUNGINDI

Balonne Shire Council is working with Moree Plains Regional Council, QLD SES and NSW SES to monitor the situation. There are inflows expected on the Barwon River but unlikely to exceed moderate levels at this stage.
