Back

At Balonne Shire Council’s Ordinary Meeting on 16 March 2023 Council received the resignation of Deputy Mayor Councillor Richard Lomman.  Today Council has released the nomination process for filling the upcoming vacancy.

Councillor Lomman’s resignation as councillor takes effect from 1 April 2023.  By law, as there is less than twelve months until the next local government election, the vacancy created by the resignation must be filled by inviting nominations.

To be considered for this position, candidates must reside within the Balonne Shire boundaries and meet the conditions outlined in the Local Government Act 2009.

Applications will open at 8:30am on Monday 3 April 2023 and close at 5:00pm on Wednesday 12 April 2023.

In the meantime, intending candidates can view the application requirements on Council’s website to consider whether they wish to be a nominee and to start preparing their application.

Nominees are required to provide evidence of having successfully completed the Queensland Government So you want to be a Councillor? online course.
