BALONNE UHF CHANNEL COLLECTION FOR DISASTER MANAGEMENT

Back

Balonne Shire’s Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) is urging local farmers to update their property’s UHF channel to Council to enhance communication and coordination during future natural disaster events such as bushfires.

The Council recognises the vital role that local farmers play in our community and their knowledge of the land and communication networks can be invaluable in managing and mitigating the impacts of natural disasters given the inconsistent mobile phone coverage in the Shire.

This initiative is part of the Council’s proactive approach to update the current information already collated and protect the local community in times of emergency situations.

Balonne Shire Mayor, Samantha O’Toole said we are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents.

“As many parts of our Shire have patchy or no mobile phone coverage, the collection of UHF channels used on farming properties is a crucial network to harness and understand,” Mayor O’Toole said.

“By providing their UHF channels, farmers will be contributing to a comprehensive database of around 450 farming properties in the Shire that the LDMG can use to facilitate effective communication during emergencies.

“This will enable swift dissemination of critical information, coordination of resources, and timely updates on the situation.

“This initiative is a testament to the Council’s dedication to fostering a resilient community that can respond effectively to natural disasters.”

Farmers are encouraged to participate in this initiative by contacting Council directly on 4620 8888.

Your cooperation and support can make a significant difference in our collective preparedness and response to natural disasters.¬

Council will also be sending all farming properties a Reply Paid postcard that farmers can fill out and return to make this process easier for you.
