LOCAL DISASTER MANAGEMENT GROUP UPDATE

This is an update from the Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) for the Balonne Shire. Travellers and residents are asked to prepare now, stay informed and monitor conditions and where possible avoid travelling into areas that will be most affected.
PREPARE FOR ISOLATION NINDIGULLY & THALLON
The Carnarvon Highway between St George and Mungindi is likely to be impacted in the coming days. A temporary levee will be erected at Thallon should the river reach the trigger height of 5m.

CURRENT SITUATION
In the 48 hours to 9:00 am Wednesday, rainfall totals of up to 125 mm have been observed across the upper Moonie River catchment, causing river and creek level rises. Since 9:00 am Wednesday, rainfall totals of up to 15 mm have been observed across the catchment.
Due to this rainfall, there is current flooding in the Moonie River Catchment, which is currently impacting Flinton and will flow through to Nindigully and Thallon over the weekend.
BOM advise no further significant rainfall expected over next few days.
Balonne Condamine Catchment - moderate to major flood warning on the Condamine River and is expected to reach moderate by Friday and therefore Balonne River expected to have inflows in one to two weeks so is on flood watch.
ROADS IMPACTS
Claude Bowhay Bridge on the Moonie Highway is now closed. The Moonie Highway is also closed between Westmar and Moonie.
The Carnarvon Highway has some water over the road between St George and Mungindi and motorists are asked to proceed with caution. The Carnarvon Highway at Nindigully and Thallon is expected to close late Saturday or early Sunday.
Local roads that are currently closed include Kooroon Road, Teelba Road, Dalkeith Road, Honeymah Lane, Warrie Road, Chelmer Road and Ballangarry Road are closed.
